Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Management and Employees

This workshop pinpoints ways organizations can implement effective initiatives, communication and enforcement policies that will curb sexual harassment in the workplace, avoid costly litigation, and meet compliance requirements of current federal, state, and EEOC guidelines.

A recent Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) survey found that sexual harassment complaints in the workplace are on the rise, despite the prevalence of written policies, prevention training and establishment of formal investigative procedures. The costs associated with litigation, stress related illnesses, employee turnover, and reduced productivity remain high.  Despite the rise in complaints, nearly all organizations (97 percent) reported having written policies against sexual harassment, providing sexual harassment prevention training (62 percent), and establishing formal processes to investigate complaints (86 percent).

SEXUAL HARASSMENT PREVENTION WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Inventory of Sexual Harassment

With organization’s approval and a large enough audience, this is an anonymous survey on how many attendees have felt sexually harassed at any point in their education and career. (Survey can be done company-wide before the training.)  

WORKSHOP CONTENT: 
What is Sexual Harassment?

Includes the organization’s Discrimination Harassment Policy.

Does Sexual Harassment Exist and To What Degree?
Includes a class dialogue on who are the “winners” and “losers” in these situations.

What Isn’t Sexual Harassment?
Includes topics such as inter-office dating, the touchy-feely supervisor, social occasions, and friendly exchanges.

How to Prevent Sexual Harassment?
Includes topics of effective communication, performance documentation, and periodic follow-ups to this training. Emphasis placed on the fact that all employees must take responsibility for preventing discriminatory harassment.

Process of Reporting Sexual Harassment in Your Organization
Includes the results from the inventory - if the inventory is performed and the results are truly anonymous. Otherwise, report typical statistics. Then, outline the organization’s verbal and written reporting process.

Sexual Harassment Scenarios
Includes cases of “Quid Pro Quo” and “Hostile Environment”. Groups of 2 to 3 will discuss each case and what should have been done differently to avoid the situation.
